Emulating A Professional

Course Goals and Achievements

About the artist: Gordon Parks is a renown photographer, author, poet and filmmaker, with work in photojournalism spanning from the 1940s-1970s. Parks was really passionate about improving social justice, poverty levels and civil rights issues, highlighting a lot of these subjects in his photography. Parks also had a passion for glamor photography, which was seen within some of his imagery. His work in photography has been admired by many as it is on display in The Museum of Fine Arts. Paying homage to important issues through his art is what made his work stand out to me for this project!

My Personal Reflection: Over the course of the semester, I've learned a lot about photography and how it varies across artists; artists use images to tell stories, and also highlight areas that they are both passionate about and/or to reflect life experiences, which makes each artist's photography unique. Having a love for photography that has been evident since being in middle school, I wanted to take this course to help me expand my photographic abilities. At the beginning of the semester, my goals that I set for myself were to grow in ways of capturing moments in their truest form, gain more knowledge about composition, light and color usage, and develop my own personal style and creative vision, all of which I feel I was able to achieve. As my love for photography has and will continue to grow, I am confident that I can continue to add to these goals of mine, since my work in this class was a stepping stone in bettering my photography!
